Bear turns 8!

It’s so crazy to think I have an 8-year-old, but I do. I’m not going to lie and say motherhood has been easy-peasy (and any woman who says that is truly lying out of the crack of her ass), but I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

Over the past year or so, I’ve read many women who regret motherhood and having children. I honestly can’t say the same. Sure, there are times where Bear does inevitably frustrate me, but 89% of the time, he’s a great kid. I have to give him that 11% because I think we all deserve that much when we’re not so great.

I’ve always wanted to be a wife and a mother (in addition to being a writer) so to say I achieved everything I wanted (so far) in my life has been amazing. And I know some people think it’s weird to have a wife and mother being a goal on my list but why not? I’m good at everything I do so why wouldn’t I be great at those two things?

Motherhood is one of those things where you’re not given a manual on how to do it, so you’re really just flying by the seat of your pants. You might know what you’re doing one day and then the next, you truly have no clue!

And I think that’s the joy and excitement of it. I try to teach Bear new things and have him experience new stuff. Sometimes, it works like when we went to Color Me Mine and had a painting session. And sometimes, it doesn’t like when I tried to replicate his favorite Panera mac ‘n cheese at home. But you don’t know until you try, right?

Having Bear has been one of the best achievements in my life. I say it’s definitely in the Top 5 of greatest things I’ve ever achieved. Honestly, I love my child so much and I’m so excited for what he will accomplish in the future.

He wants to be a train driver when he grows up and I told him if he’s going to be one, to be the best darn train driver there was. And who knows? He might change his mind or he might not. I want Bear to make his own decisions without parental or other influences.

Personally, I think Bear might become a singer or do something within the music industry just because he has an ear for music. However, I won’t pressure him to do it. I want him to be happy no matter what he does. And hey, being a train driver is a solid career choice! It comes with a full package of benefits and Bear can see the contiguous 48 states if he chooses to stay here.

Without further delay, I wanted to make a list of the Top 8 things of why Bear is so awesome. It’s little tidbits about him and show his growth over the years.

Here are the Top 8 Things Why Bear is so Awesome!

  1. He’s his own person. He likes things because he likes them and not because other people do. Sometimes, he is influenced by peer pressure but mostly, Bo makes his own decisions.

  1. He’s an expert at Roblox and Minecraft. He’s taught me a lot about both games and I’m still getting the hang of both. He follows a lot of YouTubers who play those games and he has a lot of friends both online and in real-life who also play. He will be glad to teach you!
  1. He has his own YouTube channel, without the direction of us. He likes to update his friends and followers on his progress and stuff he does. The link to his channel is here.

  1. He likes a wide variety of music. We play a lot of different music around him so he’s constantly exposed. He loves Marshmello, Queen, Outkast, Michael Jackson, Scooter, and a lot of Ukrainian music artists.
  1. He’s a sweet soul. He’s very accepting of everyone no matter the race, gender, or sexual orientation. As long as you’re not mean to him, you’re A-OK in his book. (This is advice every adult should take, honestly.)

  1. He has his own room. Yes, this is a huge deal. He has his own room with his own desk and his toys (for the most part) are neatly arranged and easy to access. He also has a camp set up on his bed for extra privacy. He loves having his own room, though sleeping in it is still a challenge!
  1. Every year he donates old toys and clothing. I always let Bear choose which clothing and toys he wants to donate since he plays/wears them a lot more than I do. I’ve explained to him it’s for children who need them and can’t afford them otherwise. He always donates at least two boxes full of goodies.

  1. He’s understanding of both of his heritage but he also identifies as being Black. He also understands what Black Lives Matter means. This is not something that I have imposed on him. I want Bear to understand that while he is biracial, society will look at him as Black and will treat him as such.

So yeah, I’m very blessed to be Bear’s mommy and I hope any future children Maks and I will have will be equally blessed with Bear being their big brother. He’s just a wonderful, amazing human and I’m just so jazzed to see what he’ll do in the future!
